Connecting History and Writing at the Springfield Armory
WMWP and the Springfield Armory National Historic Site are teaming up again to offer professional development that combines the teaching of writing across grade levels and content areas with the use of primary source and historic events. Mapping the Seasons: Exploring Historical Periods Through Writing will take place in four sessions across the four seasons of the 2019-20 school year, with a focus on connecting historical events to the Pioneer Valley and the Springfield Armory’s archives of primary source materials.
The Armory building itself will be the classroom for the course. The 15-hour professional development offering, which includes the options for reduced cost graduate credit through UMass Amherst or PDPs, is supported primarily through a grant partnership between the National Writing Project and the National Park Service. The cost for participants will be only $25.
