Our Story
The University of Massachusetts Wind Energy Center is the nation's preeminent wind energy program. For almost 50 years, our center has been conducting research, education and training in wind energy. We have graduated hundreds of alumni who work in wind energy and have helped to create the U.S. wind energy industry.
Cutting Edge Research
Our faculty understand that in order for offshore wind development to be most adventageous to the U.S., innovation is necessary to develop a domestic industry, and big-picture thinking is needed to maximize benefits to all. Our research approach is comprehensive - we bring together researchers who understand the technical challenges, environmental implications, socioeconomic impacts and regulatory hurdles of offshore wind development.
Innovative Education
Our world renowned educational program includes undergraduate and graduate classes, on campus and online, and an interdisciplinary PhD program. We also wrote the leading textbook, Wind Energy Explained. Our comprehensive program educates students in engineering, environmental science and social science to better position the U.S. workforce to be globally competitive in wind energy.
