We are delighted to welcome back Dr. Karen Cardozo as a lecturer for 2021-22. After completing her PhD in English at UMass Amherst, Karen taught across the Consortium to rave reviews: in a joint appointment in American Studies at Amherst College rotating to all five campuses (2006-08); as an Assistant Professor in the Commonwealth Honors College (2008-2010), and as a lecturer in WGSS (2010-11). She went on to direct Women’s Studies and gain tenure in Interdisciplinary Studies at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts before tapping her prior experiences in career counseling at Harvard and Williams to lead career development at Hollins University (2017-2019) and Northeastern University (2020-2021). Karen is well-equipped to help you consider your goals and pathways to impactful and meaningful work. Her interests include intersectional approaches to cultural expressions, labor, leadership, race, trauma and healing. This fall she will be teaching WGSS 187 and ENG/WGSS 393: Writing Black Feminisms. Her Spring ’22 courses include: Activating Impact (on leading social change); Rewilding Feminisms (on sustainable naturecultural ecologies) and Work Matters (an interdisciplinary graduate course on the changing world of work).
A longstanding resident of Amherst, Karen joyfully juggles teaching and writing with career coaching, performing as a singer-songwriter, and exploring equine-assisted learning (a.k.a. hanging with horses).
