About the Event

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of persistent synthetic chemicals that present complex challenges at the intersection of environmental science, public health, and policy. This symposium convenes researchers, practitioners, and regulatory professionals to examine current approaches to PFAS risk assessment, including exposure pathways, toxicological evidence, monitoring methodologies, and implications for water resource management. Through focused presentations and discussion, the session will highlight recent advances in the field, ongoing uncertainties, and the practical considerations shaping decision-making at state and national levels.

Speakers

  • Ms. Jennifer Lichtensteiger (NEIWPCC)
  • Dr. Kate Hoffman (Duke University)
  • Dr. Heather Stapleton (Duke University)
  • Dr. Zach Shepard (Rhode Island Department of Health)
  • Dr. Elsie Sunderland (Harvard University)

Why Join?

This symposium provides a focused opportunity to engage with current research and practice related to PFAS risk assessment and management. Participants will gain insight into emerging scientific findings, methodological approaches to exposure and health risk evaluation, and the regulatory and policy frameworks shaping responses to PFAS contamination. The session is particularly relevant for researchers, water resource professionals, public health practitioners, and policymakers seeking to deepen their understanding of this complex and evolving issue while engaging in informed, interdisciplinary dialogue.
