Funding Opportunities
The Massachusetts Water Resources Research Center (MA WRRC) invites pre-proposals for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 104(b) grant under the Water Resources Research Act of 1984 as part of the Water Resources Annual Institute Program (WRIP) for Fiscal Year 2025. This program supports applied research, student training, and information transfer to address critical water challenges in Massachusetts and beyond.
Eligible projects include:
- Seed projects to develop new and innovative research.
- Research projects addressing water resource challenges of state or regional importance.
- Information transfer activities aimed at enhancing water resources protection.
Proposals will be accepted for one-year projects with funding levels of $5,000, $15,000, or $50,000.
Key Dates
- Pre-proposal deadline: February 24, 2025 by 11:59 PM
- Anticipated full proposal deadline: April 6, 2025
- Anticipated project start date: September 1, 2025
Application Process
- Pre-proposals must be submitted via Google Form.
- Review process: The WRRC will evaluate pre-proposals, and invitations for full proposals will be sent in early March 2025.
- Confirmation required: If invited, you must confirm within two days that you will submit a full proposal.
- Institutional approval: Pre-proposals do not require approval from your institution’s grants and contracts office at this stage, but it will be required for full proposals.

- Matching Requirement: Awards are subject to the federal 1:1 matching requirement.
