The VASCI Climate Advisory Committee is proud to announce that members of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences worked together to participate in a Coin War and raise $410 for the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Center run by Tom Ricardi in Conway, Massachusetts. Tom Ricardi rescues approximately 125 to 150 birds including hawks, owls, falcons, eagles, and vultures each year, and he has conducted many educational programs at UMass.
During the spring semester, the VASCI Climate Advisory Committee joined forces with several groups including the VASCI Peer Advisors, Pre-Veterinary/AnSci Club, Student Chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians, and Belted Galloway Management Students to successfully conduct an all-department fun and challenging COIN WAR. The Freshmen Team and the Team composed of Graduate Students, Post-Docs, Staff, & Faculty were neck-and-neck all semester. However, the Sophomore Team swooped in with jars of quarters during the Bay State Livestock Classic at the UMass Hadley Farm in April to win the competition! The Sophomore Team received the prize of naming a Belted Galloway calf born at the UMass Farm in South Deerfield in May.
