Megan Powell, senior pre-veterinary science major has been named a recipient of the Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year Award!

The Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year Award was instituted in the 1987-88 academic year, as part of the university's continuing effort to encourage and reward exemplary employees. The intent of the award is to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated outstanding performance by contributing their time and/or skill to help the university achieve its goals and objectives.

NIH Awards $2.2 Million to UMass Amherst to Explore New Tuberculosis Therapies

The National Institutes of Health recently awarded $2.2 million to Alissa Rothchild, assistant professor in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an expert in tuberculosis (TB) immunology, to study the very first cells that respond to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the bacteria causing TB.

Professor Jesse Mager appointed Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Support Services

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is pleased to congratulate Professor Jesse Mager on his appointment as Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Support Services, effective September 1, 2024. In this role, Dr. Mager will work closely with the Office of the Provost and other Vice Chancellors to focus on research elements of the strategic plan. The focus will be on oversight of specialized research facilities, capacity building within the research enterprise, and initiatives to increase sponsored research efforts especially post-award.

Noble joins UMass Police Department Mounted Unit

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is pleased to announce the arrival of Noble, a 4-year-old Percheron x Thoroughbred gelding, who will now officially join the ranks of the UMass Police Department Mounted Unit.
