Bismark Minnah
Graduate Student MCB
PI: Alissa Rothchild
Bismark Minnah earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University for Development Studies, Ghana. He began his research journey as a Research Assistant in a microbiology lab at the West African Center for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) at the University of Ghana, where he investigated strategies to mitigate challenges posed by Aspergillus flavus and its aflatoxins, as well as resistance acquisition in Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes. As a graduate student at UMass Amherst, Bismark transitioned to immunology and now studies alveolar macrophage (AM) infections in the context of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). His research focuses on using CRISPR-Cas9 screening to identify genes or molecules that negatively regulate AM innate sensing during Mtb infection, as well as evaluating the role of NRF2 in modulating alveolar macrophage cell death during infection.
