Aliyah is a second year PhD student in the MCB program. Aliyah graduated with the Outstanding Graduating Senior in Physics award from Southeastern Louisiana University in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics with a minor in biology. While at Southeastern she participated in diverse physics, engineering, and biological research projects. The year after her graduation Aliyah worked as a research assistant at a neurotoxicity company where she performed various 3D in-vitro assays.
Aliyah is currently pursuing a PhD in the Molecular and Cellular Biology graduate program and working in Kathleen Arcaro's lab. Aliyah's project looks at genome-wide DNA methylation as a biomarker for individual breast cancer risk, specifically in high-risk women. Not all high-risk women will develop breast cancer, so our lab is dedicated to finding a way to determine individual risk factors based on an individual's epigenome.  In her free time Aliyah enjoys cooking, painting, hiking/doing anything outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
