How to Drop a Class

Sometimes you find that you need to drop a class. The class drop process differs based on the timing of the drop.

Add/Drop dates can be found in the class description on this site or in SPIRE.

When are you dropping the class?

Before Add/Drop Deadline:

  • Drop the class in SPIRE
  • Non-credit, campus-based students in University+ classes, and students enrolled in one of our degree programs that would like to drop a University-scheduled class, use the Class Drop Form.
  • Classes will not show on transcripts
  • See Refund Policy for refund information

After Add/Drop Deadline but:

  • Before withdrawal period ends
    • Use the Class Drop Form
    • Class will show a grade of "DR" (graduate students) or "W" (undergraduate students) on transcripts
    • See Refund Policy for refund information
  • After withdrawal period ends (late withdrawal)
    • Graduate students: Contact your Graduate Program Director
    • Undergraduate students: Contact your Advisor or Academic Dean
    • Non-Degree students: Contact an advisor at @email or 413-545-3430
    • Contact should send an email to @email giving their approval before you can be withdrawn from the class
    • Email should include:
      • Student Name
      • SPIRE ID
      • Term
      • Subject and Catalog # (e.g. BIOLOGY 103)
      • 5-digit Class Number
