Get a Head Start on Your First Year at UMass
For students planning to start at UMass Amherst in Fall 2023, we invite you to “Jump In” to your college career this summer. Jump In is a six-week program designed to give you a head start on your academics and provide you with the foundations for a successful transition to college.
You can participate in this fully online program from anywhere, including our Mount Ida campus in Newton, MA, where you can live close to Boston while accessing the program virtually with other students living at Mount Ida.
Jump In is offered through University Without Walls, an academic unit of UMass Amherst that supports online and flexible learning for students at all stages of their academic careers.
Learn About Jump In
The Jump In program takes place during the second six-week Summer Session at UMass, which runs from Monday, July 17th to Friday, August 25th.
Students who participate in the program will enroll in a 3-4 credit general education or introductory major course (depending on major) and a 1 credit College Success Seminar.
In addition to getting a head start on academics and college-level learning, students will engage with instructors and advisors, and connect with peers virtually.

This program is designed for incoming first-year undergraduates who have been accepted to UMass Amherst and transfer students starting in Fall 2023.
