UWW Staff Member Recognized for Student Support Excellence
UWW's Jonah Carlson has received the 2021 New England Region Outstanding Continuing Education Support Specialist Award - Staff in a Support Role from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).
Jonah serves as Student Services Coordinator for the UWW Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. In this role, he works to make the university as navigable and accessible as possible for students by providing student support and maintaining much of the program’s student resources infrastructure.
A graduate of Berkshire Community College, Jonah has taken a non-traditional educational path and understands the challenges faced by many adult students.
"This award is well-deserved," Department Chair Jacqueline Castledine said. "Jonah exemplifies the commitment to access, support, and advocacy that has been at the core of UWW's mission for fifty years."
UMass Amherst is now the first institution where two staff have won the award, with Janet Danylieko receiving the inaugural honor in 2017.
