Ruth B. Loving Scholarship Closes in on Endowment Status
Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of donors who participated during UMassGives, the Ruth B. Loving Scholarship is closing in on endowment status. An impressive $20,000 was raised during UMassGives, for a total of approximately $24,000 raised to date for the fund.
"We're very close to meeting our goal," said Joe Bartolomeo, Associate Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies and Dean of the UWW Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. "Another $2,000 more and we will cross the finish line."
"We are deeply moved by the support of so many, including the Loving family, who have worked together to create this new, vital scholarship in honor of Ruth Loving, in celebration of UWW's 50th anniversary, and in support of UWW students in need," said Department Chair and Senior Lecturer Jacqueline Castledine.
Beloved and renowned as the Mother of Civil Rights in Springfield, Massachusetts, Ruth B. Loving dedicated her life to social justice and community activism, and was a powerful force to be reckoned with until her death at age 100. In 1988, at the age of 73, she earned her bachelor’s from UMass Amherst through the University Without Walls. The Ruth B. Loving Scholarship honors and carries forward the legacy of this accomplished and influential alumna by providing support for socioeconomically disadvantaged UWW Interdisciplinary Studies students with preference given to those living in Hampden County, Massachusetts.
Give now to the Ruth B. Loving Scholarship and help us cross the finish line.
