Learn How to Take an Online Class in Blackboard

Jan 31, 2021

Welcome to online learning!

With the spring term beginning soon, we are writing to inform you of training and technical support resources available for online students. We have developed resources in multiple formats to meet your personal learning style and comfort, and to accommodate your busy schedule.

For new online students, you may have questions about taking online courses and using Blackboard to complete coursework. Many of these resources are prepared with new users in mind! For our experienced online students, you may wish to refresh your skills using Blackboard, or may be asked to use a new technology you haven’t used before. Whether you prefer to read instructions, watch videos at your own pace, or participate in an interactive webinar, we have resources for you!

Student Orientation Wiki

If you have questions about participating in online courses and Blackboard, you should explore the Student Orientation and Resource Area! It contains tips to help students prepare for their online classes, video tutorials about participating in Blackboard discussions, and more!

24/7 Help Desk

The training resources are helpful as you start your online experiences and learn about how to use Blackboard. However, if you are experiencing technical issues, there a 24/7 Help Desk is available for technical support. You have the options to call, email or chat based on your preference of communication. Information about the HelpDesk is located on the main login page, on the MyUMassAmherst page within Blackboard, and within your course under “Help & Resources.”

If you would like a more interactive experience, consider registering for a webinar. The webinar covers a variety of topics, including how to get started in Blackboard and Moodle. This spring's webinar is coming up on Sunday, January 31 at noon Eastern Time, and a recording will also be made available following the event. You can sign up here.

We hope you consider utilizing these resources and enjoy your online course experience!
