Data is fundamentally re-inventing the healthcare industry. Quality data programs such as Medicare's Physician Quality Reporting Systems (PRQS), payment schemes such as Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), predictive analytics and population health. Data analytics is being driven by and driving new organizational models in healthcare such as managed care, accountable care organizations (ACOs) and telehealth. Data analytics is enabled by adaptation of technology to healthcare: machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT). This course provides a chance for students to probe into the world of data analytics. Data analytics is different from data science. This course will address the questions of how data analysis can change healthcare. This survey course will provide students a chance to explore the wide range of opportunities and challenges across the healthcare data analysis landscape. It will also provide students a chance to "get their hands dirty" by working at a basic level with Tableau, an important tool of data analysis and presentation.
