CHEM 101

This course for non-science majors is designed to help students understand some basic chemistry concepts and get a feel for "thinking like a chemist." It explores how chemical analysis can be used to determine the composition of materials and the scope and limitations of current chemical analysis technology. Examples will be taken from efforts to deal with the presence of arsenic or other potentially harmful substances in food or the environment. The math used is mostly arithmetic. Use of library resources to learn about scientific research. (Gen.Ed. PS)
