MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES AND RESOURCES

Training is offered in the operation of a wide variety of audio visual equipment and presentation technologies, including connecting laptop computers to portable or permanent video/data projectors. Consultations are also available for pre- and post-production techniques and practices in video production. These services are provided for all university faculty, TAs and staff.

For non-UMass alumni, our Community Career Services Program offers evening, fee-for-service career counseling on job search, career redirection, or career management issues.
Animal Care Office

The Animal Care Office offers information and training to university faculty and staff on the handling, use, medicine, and legal requirements associated with animals for research and teaching. Members of the university community who are not directly involved with animal research or teaching but are interested in and concerned about the animals are welcome to contact them for information.

Training for Travel Preparers

Pam Martial, 545-1788The Controller's Office offers at no cost the Travel Reimbursement Incentive Program (TRIP) to university employees who regularly prepare travel reimbursements and want to become Certified Travel Preparers. This seminar: introduces the TRIP program; discusses university travel policy; shows the advantages of TRIP participation for the preparer and the department; explains the use of the automated forms. Attendees are usually bookkeepers and business managers. Sessions are also conducted upon request.

"Foundation grant-seeking consists of two, equally important arts - research and writing." Most foundation proposals are rejected because they are not well-targeted to the potential funder. Foundation Relations workshops provide instruction on how to find the right match for your project, understanding foundations' giving philosophies and techniques, and reading between the lines of foundation-prepared material. Training can be provided for writing letters of inquiry. Customized presentations for departments are also available. Faculty, staff and students may attend Foundation Relations presentations, but a minimum of 12 is a requirement.

[email protected]OIT offers short computing workshops to the campus community on a wide variety of subjects. The most frequently scheduled workshops include: Windows and Macintosh systems and applications, e-mail, thesis formatting, and Internet/world wide web. There is a $10 registration fee for each workshop; in addition, some workshops have fees for materials. Check the web page or contact the HELP desk for a list of current workshops. OIT staff teaches these and other subjects directly to university classes or groups.

Topics include: UITS overview (the basics for everyone who uses the mainframe), data analyzer (ad hoc reporting from administrative data), and information on other UITS services (OPSCAN, Courier, etc.).
