The Marcom web team provides web development and design services on a fee-for-service basis to the following campus groups:

  • Schools and colleges
  • Academic departments
  • Administrative units

Please note: Websites for individual faculty, faculty projects, student projects, student organizations, or those that are funded by grants or federal appropriation funds do not qualify for our services. Faculty should contact the Instructional Media Lab for information. Other web hosting options include UMass Blogs or Personal Websites.

Web Development
Our team performs all necessary tasks associated with developing websites for hosting on Our design and development services utilize Drupal, the open-source content management system chosen as the university web standard. The websites we develop adhere to international accessibility standards and are optimized for display on desktop and mobile devices. We leverage our close relationship with UMass IT to augment developmental flexibility and efficiency.
Content Strategy
We provide expertise in developing web content that effectively reaches specific target audiences and accomplishes business goals. Our strategy is driven by analytics and is optimized for coherent and audience-focused client messaging.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Our team develops websites that are configured to assist with growing visibility in organic (nonpaid) search engine results. We utilize several technical and creative elements to improve search engine rankings, drive traffic, and increase awareness in search engines. We ensure that our clients’ sites are structured in a way that search engines understand.
Google Analytics Reports
We generate Google Analytics reports to help our clients understand how visitors find, navigate, and engage with their website. Basic reports deliver an easy-to-understand overview, while our custom reports can be targeted to highlight marketing campaigns or other specialized metrics.
Drupal Training
Each project includes basic administrative training focused on client self-sufficiency with regard to content input and editing. Additional sessions are available for specialized or topical in-depth training.

System Integration Analysis & Development
We offer expertise in analyzing and implementing tools and protocols for bridging systems to enhance websites. Utilizing in-house and external resources, we bring data-driven processes successfully together in the final web project.
Programming Development
The web team offers programming solutions using HTML, PHP, Javascript, and SQL for customized additions and refinements to the Drupal theme and component layers. This allows greater flexibility and range of solutions to client application requirements.
