The University of Massachusetts Amherst

What We Do

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is the flagship campus of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a premier national public research institution. University Relations is the strategic and creative communications office for the entire campus. It is our responsibility to protect and promote the UMass Amherst brand, develop meaningful relationships with people and organizations externally and internally, and tell the impressive story of UMass Amherst: our faculty and their global research; our students who are preparing to lead; and our hundreds of thousands of alumni who make the world a better place every day.

Our wide range of capabilities within University Relations enables us to support the university in many different ways—through media, government, and community relations; marketing and communications; event planning; economic development and regional partnerships; and New England Public Radio—the region’s premier public radio station.

University Relations harnesses the resources and expertise of these distinct entities in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure that the powerful message of the University of Massachusetts reaches all of our varied audiences, both internal and external.
