The Executive Director of Social Media is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and optimization of highly strategic and innovative digital content across various social media and online platforms for the university and the Chancellor. The position plays a lead role in reputation management for the institutional social channels and the Chancellor’s social platforms, ensuring alignment with values, goals, and overall brand image. The role is responsible for leading the social media team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment through regular onsite engagement, including in-person team meetings, coaching, and mentoring.
The Executive Director’s team develops creative organic content, telling the story of a dynamic, diverse, and entrepreneurial university, strengthening a sense of community on campus and positioning UMass as a destination of choice for prospective students. As part of the Office of News and Media Relations, the position builds relationships across campus, participating in regular in-person collaborations with faculty, staff, and campus partners, and collaborates closely with the University MarCom Group to develop digital strategy across organic as well as influencer and paid social content.

The goal of the Center is to create an embassy for the campus in downtown Springfield. The Operations Manager (Clerk IV) for the UMass Amherst Henry M. Thomas III Center in Springfield under the leadership of General Manager supports the UMass team at the Center in their responsibility to efficiently manage the Center’s financials, event coordination, and the development of marketing materials and social media content in collaboration with the University’s MarCom department.
The Social Media Writer/Strategist plays a lead role and exercises sound judgement in crafting content for the institution’s organic social media content that ladders up to the goals and content strategy for the institution. As social media writer, this position exercises sound editorial judgement in crafting thoughtful, well-researched content that elevates the reputation of UMass Amherst. Reporting to the Executive Director of Digital Communications, this role plays an essential part in amplifying the university’s triumphs, ventures and pivotal role in shaping lives on a national and international scale. It also provides perspective on student and faculty life at the University and supports and kindles student, faculty and alumni engagement.
The position requires excellent research and writing skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of audiences, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, public officials, alumni and donors. The Social Media Writer/Strategist must be able to work independently and as a team member, exercising sound judgment under deadline conditions. The job requires being available outside of normal business hours as needed, and participating in an on-call rotation on nights, weekends and holidays to monitor and post timely social media and web content.
An experienced and visionary leader, the Executive Creative Director (ECD) translates marketing and communications strategies into compelling creative concepts and expressions to consistently and effectively bring the UMass brand to life.
This role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and is a member of the MarCom leadership team. The ECD has exceptional leadership skills and a strong background in audience segmenting and storytelling. The role leads creative efforts across multiple platforms including magazine, print, digital, writing and editing, and video and photography.
The ECD directs and develops compelling, best-in-class, strategic and effective solutions that set the creative standard for university marketing material. As the strategic leader for the MarCom creative team, the ECD partners closely with colleagues in University Relations and collaborates effectively with schools, colleges and university-wide units, and external partners. This position builds on brand architecture (verbal and visual) to generate creative communications that grow UMass Amherst’s brand awareness and enhance our reputation.
The Marketing & Communications (Marcom) group leads and coordinates strategic marketing efforts for UMass Amherst to raise the institution’s global visibility and deepen its reputation as one of the nation’s great public research universities. It tells the university’s stories across a wide array of platforms and builds strong relationships with important audiences through a variety of traditional and new marketing tactics. Additionally, the Marcom group provides leadership, consultation, partnership, and coordination for marketers and communicators across campus, collaborating with all colleges, schools, and units.
The university is in the process of bringing all the main forward facing website properties onto a unified technical platform that is supported by a robust content management system (Drupal) and clear web governance. As a result, we are looking for several key positions to round out our existing team.
UMass Amherst is looking for an experienced content writer to join our digital team. In this role, you’ll help drive search traffic and awareness through editorial content and website copy. You’ll create engaging content based on university goals and high search volume topics. The ideal candidate has some technical proficiency, digital marketing experience, web writing, an understanding of SEO, and an appreciation for results measurement. Along with writing for the main institutional sites, you’ll be working directly with university partners to write and edit content for their sites.
