Nancy Buffone, associate vice chancellor for University Relations, is a dedicated leader with a rich history at the institution. Joining UMass in 1995, Nancy worked in the Provost’s Office, taking on additional responsibilities over the years as the director of communications and special initiatives. Among other achievements, she pioneered the university's first leadership orientation program for academic department chairs, spearheaded the 2013 celebration of UMass Amherst's 150th anniversary, and has led the campus's town-gown relations agenda since 2010.

In 2009, Nancy was entrusted with overseeing major university events like commencement, with her responsibilities growing over time to include leading community relations, negotiating with local government officials, and nurturing off-campus partnerships. For five years, she also headed the university’s communications team, where her leadership produced award-winning projects, including the redesign of UMass Magazine

Nancy's contributions extend beyond the university, as she is a former BusinessWest 40 Under 40 honoree and a two-time Chancellor’s Citation recipient. She served as president of the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the WGBY Board of Tribunes, and is an executive committee member of the chamber's board. Nancy holds three UMass Amherst degrees, including a doctorate in education policy and leadership.
