Derek Allard
Director of Web Content
Derek Allard is the director of web content for the MarCom web team. He manages a group that constantly works to improve the quality of the university’s websites—everything from content strategy to client support to accessibility concerns and the reading level of the words published on our properties. He received his Master of Fine Arts from Southern New Hampshire University in 2022 and earned his undergraduate degree in English from Franklin Pierce University a long time before that.
Prior to joining UMass Amherst in January 2023, Derek owned and operated the website design and development firm, Tunnel 7. He worked with a diverse group of clients including the Norman Rockwell Museum, Burlington International Airport, and WinningWriters.com, which continues to be nationally recognized by Writer's Digest as one of the Best Websites for Writers.

Reading and writing obscure literary fiction, cycling, hiking, raising two rescue dogs from Texas

I've hiked all forty-eight 4,000-foot summits in the White Mountains at least once, many during the winter!
