Debra Longo is the director of executive communications and serves as the primary writer for the chancellor and as the editorial liaison on collaborative written communications for the Office of the Chancellor. Prior to joining UMass Amherst, she worked at Salem State University for 10 years—the first six as special assistant to the provost, the latter four as communication manager, where she was responsible for presidential speechwriting and various aspects of internal communication.

Before joining the world of higher education, Debra was an associate producer with an independent film company that produces both documentaries and feature films. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from UMass Amherst and a master's of science in industrial/organizational psychology from Salem State University. She is proud to have earned her master's degree at the young age of 50.
