Tagus Press's "Poems from Absentia and Poems from the Island and the World" longlisted for PEN Translation Award

We're pleased to announce that Tagus Press's 2019 translation of Poems in Absentia & Poems from The Island and the World has been longlisted for the 2020 PEN Award for Poetry in Translation. Founded in 1996, the award recognizes the best book-length translations of poetry into English and seeks to honor dynamic, diverse, and thought-provoking examples of literary excellence. This year’s panel of judges included the esteemed writers and translators Michael Eskin, Forrest Gander, and Pierre Joris.

George Monteiro’s masterful translation of Pedro da Silveira classic work draws readers into the world of the Azores Islands, tracing the islander’s longing for migration, and inevitable departures and returns.

The winners will be announced at the 2020 PEN America Literary Awards Ceremony on March 2 in New York City.
