UMass/Amherst is a very safe, walkable, and well illuminated campus, however it is also a large campus. It's ok to feel uncertain walking around, especially at night. It's a good idea to be speaking with people as you walk around campus, and many students use this time to check in with friends or family, or your roomate. If you would be more comfortable walking with someone, we offer a walking escort service through our Residence Hall Security department.
Walking Escort Service
During the academic semester walking teams of students with mobile radios are available for safe escort across campus during the following hours:
- Sunday to Wednesday: 9pm-11 pm
- Thursday: 9pm-12 am
- Friday & Saturday: 9pm-2 am
Call (413) 545-2123 to make arrangements for a safety escort.
