The UMPD Community Outreach Unit is the backbone of the UMPD community policing initiative. Our community outreach programs foster community involvement, cooperation, and communication. Community Outreach Officers Mark Whelihan and Brian Kellogg conduct residence hall talks and security surveys, and initiate crime prevention and awareness efforts. The campus community has embraced these programs which have helped members of the community become more aware of their personal security as well as that of their property.
New students participate in crime prevention and safety awareness programs when they enter the university. During New Student Orientation, students and parents learn about crime on campus and in surrounding neighborhoods, as well the resources UMPD offers.
