Tuition Credits

A tuition credit is an award that lessens your UMass Amherst tuition fee. While you may receive or be eligible for multiple tuition credits from a variety of sources, you will only be able to use one credit per semester.

The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) administers a variety of tuition credits. For a list of tuition credits made available by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts visit the OSFA website.

John and Abigail Adams Scholarship

This program is administered by the Massachusetts Board of Education.  Criteria for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship can be found on the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website.

Adams Scholarship recipients must submit a copy of their Adams Scholarship award letter to the UMass Amherst Financial Aid Office in order to access the award.  Award recipients must also file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) annually, enroll in at least 12 credits per semester, and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

This scholarship is a partial tuition credit. It does not cover fees, room, board, or other expenses.  Students may not use more than one tuition credit per semester. The tuition credit can be awarded for up to eight semesters and must be used within 6 years of the student’s high school graduation.  The value of the Adams Scholarship at UMass Amherst is $857 per semester.

The Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery Award

This program is administered by the Massachusetts Board of Education.  Criteria for the Koplik Certificate of Mastery can be found on the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education website.

Eligible students can apply for the Koplik Certificate of Mastery Award by contacting their high school guidance counselors. Award recipients must submit a copy of their Koplik Award certificate to the UMass Amherst Financial Aid Office in order to access the award.  Award recipients must also file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) annually, enroll in at least 12 credits per semester, and maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA.

This award is a partial tuition credit. It does not cover fees, room, board, or other expenses.  Students may not use more than one tuition credit per semester. The tuition credit can be awarded for up to eight semesters.  The student must remain continuously enrolled in a full-time course load and must begin using the award in the semester immediately following their graduation from high school.  The value of the Koplik Certificate of Mastery Award at UMass Amherst is $857 per semester.

Chancellor's Talent Award

UMass Amherst offers tuition credits to admitted freshman who present especially strong art portfolios or who present strong performances in music or dance auditions. The value of the credit can vary. This scholarship/credit may not be combined with other tuition credits.

Other Tuition Credits

Other Tuition Credit programs, including tuition credits for Veterans, Senior Citizens, and Employees/Dependents are administered by the Office of the Bursar.
