In good hands

Deputy Chancellor Marcellette Williams
has been asked by UMass President William Bulger to
become interim chancellor of the Amherst campus when Chancellor David
Scott steps down June 30, and to serve until a permanent chancellor is
selected. Williams came to UMass with Scott in 1994 from Michigan State,
where both had been members of the administration. It gives me a
deep sense of closure to know that the first person I recruited to UMass
has been selected by President Bulger as the best person to serve as my
immediate successor, says Scott. Williams says she looked forward
to serving in the position: The opportunity to serve in this transitional
period is a privilege and a responsibility that I take to heart,
she says.
