UMACC Stories Blog

When Madelaine Bartlett was a child, her parents used to give her “pocket money” and encouraged her to save some, give some, and spend some. The taught her that helping those in need was part of being a human. “It’s not a question, you just do it.”

“I think that we’re all here to make the world better for everyone, and UMACC is an easy way to do that. If you give by payroll deduction, you barely even notice it, and you’ve just made someone else’s life better. It seems silly not to.”

When asked why she donates through UMACC, Becky Lockwood quotes Marian Wright Edelman, an activist for the rights of children and founder of the Children’s Defense Fund: “Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in your spare time.”
