Derrick brings more than 30 years of experience in healthcare administration and finance to his role at UHS.
He most recently served as administrator of Western Massachusetts Hospital (WMH) in Westfield, Mass., where he directed initiatives to improve quality of care and patient access, increased community and academic collaborations, oversaw capital improvements, implemented an electronic health record and improved operational efficiencies.
He began his tenure at WMH as chief financial officer, later assuming the additional role of chief operating officer. He previously advanced from accountant to controller at Ludlow Hospital, Ludlow, Mass., and worked in finance for the Monson Developmental Center, Monson, Mass.
Derrick earned a master of management degree from Cambridge College, Cambridge, Mass., and a B.S. in business administration from American International College, Springfield, Mass. He holds certificates from the Northeast Regional Public Health Leadership Institute and the federal Emergency Management Institute, and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
For the last seven years, Derrick has served as a member of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health governing body for state's public health hospitals. He previously served as treasurer for the board of directors of a Chicopee-based non-profit human service organization.
