The UCard Debit Account is a UMass Amherst declining balance debit account provided to UMass community members to make puchases conveniently and easily at on-campus and some off-campus locations. To learn more about the debit account including cost and eligibility requirements, please go here.
How do I open a UCard Debit Account?
Students: Since 2016 all students are automatically assigned UCard Debit Accounts.
Employees (Faculty & Staff) and NENS: Since 2018 all Employees and qualified NENS are automatically assigned UCard Debit Accounts.
Others: Visitors, guests, and others who do not qualify for a UCard can still obtain a Debit Account of a sorts by obtaining a Guest Card from one of the several Value Plus kiosks located accross campus (Campus Center concourse, Hampshire, W.E.B. DuBois Library lower level, the LGRC Physical Sciences Library, and the UCard Office) Please be aware that these cards have several limitations as compared to UCard Debit Accounts:
- Guest cards are anonymous. If you lose or damage your guest card, the funds on that card are lost.
- Similarly, these funds cannot be refunded, even if you leave the university.
- The only way to deposit funds on to a guest card is by making a cash deposit at a Value Plus kiosk.
- The cards are magnetic stripe only cards and will not work with campus vending machines or laundry room controllers.
