In 2025-2026, the Gentzler Translation Center held the first Translated Book Club (TBC), created and guided by Regina Galasso and Breanna Lynch. The TBC aims to bring together a diverse range of readers to explore global voices through works translated into English, while promoting and supporting translators and their publishers. Each TBC meeting is led by a graduate student or faculty member, who is compensated for their expertise and time, and invites a diverse community of readers from UMass Amherst and beyond to convene at UMass Downtown on Pleasant Street in Amherst.
In an effort to encourage and support other universities and communities of readers to create their own versions of the TBC, we've created the three-page "Guide to Starting a Translated Book Club," which can be referenced here at this link or downloaded and printed by clicking on the link below.
We also created postcards and flyers to promote the creation of more TBCs. The design includes a QR code that leads to this very "Translated Book Club" page on our website for easy access.
Please use these resources and share them widely!
And stay tuned for the 2026-2027 edition of the Translated Book Club, as we embark on our next chapter of discovering translated literature in community.
