David Keohane
MFA in Dramaturgy
David Keohane (he/him) is a theatre practitioner, educator, actor and dramaturg from Andover, Massachusetts. He is currently a Dramaturgy MFA candidate at the UMass Amherst Theater Department studying the intersection between theater and ecology. His transdisciplinary studies include environmental humanities, social permaculture, multispecies ethnography, food systems, and ecological storytelling. He believes theatre should uphold the great responsibility of togetherness as a means of shifting our environmental relations.
David received a BFA in Theatre Arts from Boston University in 2013, where he studied acting, physical theatre, directing, dramaturgy, design and theatre management. He also holds an Shakespearen acting certificate from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. While living in Chicago, he served as administrative assistant for The Theatre School at DePaul University. In 2018, David helped produce and program SpeakEasy Stage Company's 29th and 30th season as resident artistic fellow under the direction of producing artistic director Paul Daigneault. In the summer of 2022, David served as a research assistant and field technician for Cornell University's Sustainable Cropping Systems Lab.
His acting credits include productions with Great Barrington Public Theatre, Denizen, BEDLAM, Central Square Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Opera House Arts, and Oak Park Festival Theatre. While living in New York, he was a teaching artist with Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival where his work included coaching West Point cadets in Shakepearan monologues and scenes. His independent educational experiences include creative writing, myth creation, dreamwork, puppetry, adaptation, and outdoor observation.
