Transparency in Assignments: A Simple Intervention that Makes a Big Difference

A Workshop

Date:  Thursday, October 5, 2017
Time:  12:00PM to 1:30PM
Location:  Hadley Room, Campus Center 10th FL

Improving your teaching need not require massive changes. In fact, a recent multi-campus research project shows that a fairly simple intervention – using the principles of transparency when explaining the purpose, tasks, and criteria for an assignment – can lead to enhanced student success, particularly for underrepresented students. So why not try it?

In this workshop, you will:

  • explore how to help your students gain confidence in their ability to learn;
  • design a transparent assignment for one of your classes;
  • become familiar with the research on transparency and the particular types of students it helps most; and
  • reflect on how you build assignments.

Come join us for a light lunch, some good cheer, and some answers. Led by Brian Baldi (TEFD, Assistant Director).
