Project Overview

UMass Amherst composts over 1,400 tons of organic waste each year, the largest recycling stream on campus.  We compost in each dining common and most of our retail dining locations. This includes our largest cafeteria, BlueWall Cafe, which serves an estimated 7,000 people on its busiest days.

During the Spring 2012 semester, a new composting bin was placed outside the Franklin Dining Common next to the Permaculture Garden for students living in the residence halls who want to compost their food scraps and napkins.

Please be responsible by placing only food scraps and napkins in this bin.
