This course is offered online for Summer 2020.

This summer, high school students are invited to enroll in a regular UMass introductory architecture studio. The course will be offered online.

Course: Architecture 100, Introduction to Architecture (4 credits)
Dates: July 6 - 23
Days: Monday - Thursday, 1pm - 4pm Eastern
(One-on-one tutorials for high school students scheduled at other times)

In this foundation studio course we will explore the vital effects of architecture and their representation. In the first part of the course students will be using primarily 2-dimensional media, to explore the development of concepts through projects focused on graphic storytelling, mapping, and translation.

Students will enhance skills in drawing and drafting techniques, and also work through the design process to familiarize themselves with concept development, iteration, analysis, and critique. This part of the course will expand into 3-dimensional spatial exploration and design of habitable space.

The program provides an opportunity for high school students interested in architecture, landscape architecture, urban or interior design to engage in the kinds of activities that take place in a university design program.

Course fee: $1,633 plus a $120 materials fee (kits will be provided via mail)

Schedule: Online Live Sessions every

Monday-Thursday 1:00-4:00pm
