Find your Spaces on Campus
Feeling overwhelmed by the number of different communities and orgs on campus? That’s normal! It can be tough to go out of your comfort zone to find spaces where you feel safe, supported, and connected on campus. We break down how to find your spaces and your people:
You’ll never find your spaces if you’re sticking to a route of residence hall → class → dining hall → residence hall. Give yourself a chance to see more of campus! Take some time on a slow afternoon or weekend to wander around, popping in and out of buildings that look interesting to you and taking pictures of fliers you see in the Student Union. You never know what you’ll find or who you’ll run into. It sounds corny, but there are opportunities for connection around every corner at UMass.
The folks you interact with everyday can sometimes be the best resources to help you find a home here at UMass. Check in with your classmates, residence hall neighbors or friends, and ask what they’re connected to on campus. Chances are, someone around you knows about an awesome RSO or group that could be a great fit for you, too!
Trust your gut
You don’t have to feel connected to every RSO, even if that group seems to fit with your social identity or academic interests. If you check something out and you’re really not feeling it, that’s okay! Keep pushing yourself to test out new opportunities that look interesting to you. You have a home here, it’s only a matter of finding it.
