Move-In Squad
Starting Salary: hourly rate consistent with MA minimum wage

This is a paid student position which is part of the Fall Opening team. Fall Move-In Squad Members will return to campus early for the Fall semester to assist Residential Services with planning of Fall 2024 Move-In. Move-In Squad will assist in the setup of various operations for Fall Move-In including, but not limited to set up and tear down of East and West campus check-in locations, preparing campus load zone areas and preparing keys for student arrival.
During Fall Move-In days, this role will provide supplemental support to an existing staff person and may serve in a variety of roles, including but not limited to, key runner, boarding pass scanner or traffic merger. All move in duties do take place outdoors while exposed to the elements of the weather.
Move In Squad members will also have the option to assist with logging packages in one of the eight Residential Service Desk locations for 10 hours each week through the third week of September. Hours and location to be scheduled based on RSD need and your availability.
Move-In Squad Team members with a Fall 2024 on campus assignment will move in Sunday, August 18.

Residential Service Desk Customer Service Associate
Applications for Spring 2025 will be live on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Salary: Hourly rate consistent with Massachusetts minimum wage
Work Schedule: on average 6-10 Hours/Week*, with a variety of weekday, evening, and weekend shifts available.
*Some exceptions during training and at opening/closing periods, with the possibility to work Monday–Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. during break periods.

This position requires a commitment from January 27, 2025 through May 19, 2025. Staff members will be trained in all aspects of Residential Service Desk policies and procedures. This position works an average of 6-10 hours per week during the academic year, with the exception of training/opening/closing periods, where hours are increased.
Minimum Qualifications:
- You must be a currently enrolled (6 or more credits) undergraduate student at UMass Amherst in good standing.
- You must be available to attend staff training beginning January 27, 2025 and work throughout the Move-In period. CSAs who live on campus may move in to their Residence Hall on Sunday, January 26.
- You must be able to work through fall and spring residence hall closing.
- Hire is contingent upon successful completion of SPIRE FERPA training.

Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provide information, services and/or resources for students or others who call or come to the office in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate occupancy records using SPIRE and record customer interactions using the department database.
- Distribute and collect keys and temporary access cards. Maintain accurate records for keys and access cards during shift. Implement procedures for lost or stolen keys/cards.
- Perform audits of keys and temporary access cards.
- Distribute mailbox combinations as necessary.
- Assist students with maintenance requests.
- Log and distribute packages to residents and update package log accordingly.
- Sort residence hall mail/packages and maintain cleanliness of mail rooms.
- Maintain use of department issued email account and computer network space. A regular check of your department email account is expected on shift.
- Collect, log and secure lost and found items according to protocol.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as assigned.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Keep supervisor(s) informed of any issues/concerns.
Residential Service Desk Student Supervisor
Starting Salary: $16.25
Work Schedule: 24 hours per pay cycle on average
Hours: Monday–Friday 4:00 – 11:00 p.m.; Sat – Sun *12:00 – 8:00 p.m.
*Some exceptions at opening/closing periods, with the possibility to work Monday–Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on occasion.

The Residential Service Desk Student Supervisor provides functional supervision of the eight RSDs and their student staff in the evenings and on weekends. RSDSS serve as a first point of contact for troubleshooting issues and provides back up and support for the RSD staff. Students who can provide a full academic year commitment, have been awarded work study, and who are seeking leadership opportunities are encouraged to apply. Staff members will be trained in all aspects of Residential Service Desk policies and procedures. This position typically works 12 hours per week during the academic year, with the exception of training/opening/closing periods, when hours are increased.
Minimum Qualifications:
- You must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at UMass Amherst.
- You must be able to work 24 hours per pay period the outlined operating hours.
- In the spring semester, you must be available to return to campus for training from January 20, 2022 and remain on campus through May 15, 2022 to assist with closing.
- You must be mature, self-motivated, and possess a positive attitude.
- You must have strong communication and organizational skills.
- You must have strong leadership skills or previous supervisory experience.
- Be a creative lateral thinker with excellent problem solving skills.
- Possess previous customer service experience.
- You must have a valid drivers’ license and complete the Motor Vehicle Idling Policy test.

- One full semester of experience working in a Residential Service Desk.
- Experience living in the University residence halls.
- Possess a working knowledge of Residential Life policies and practices.

- Strong commitment to working on a team/in a group setting.

Residential Services Special Projects Assistant

Operational Services is hiring Special Project Assistants for Summer 2022. Special Project Assistants are undergraduate students who are actively enrolled in a degree-granting program. Work Study recipients are welcome, but an award is not required.
Starting Salary: $15.25/hr
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours/week from Monday, May 16, 2022 through Fall 2022 Move-In (early September).
Work Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Opportunity to continue part-time through the Fall 2022 – Spring 2023 academic year will be made available depending on work performance and expressed interest. Successful applicants are required to assist with opening (Move-In) and closing (Move-Out) during the academic year. Please note academic rates (minimum wage) will apply during this time.

- Grounds work such as mowing, raking, gardening, weeding, plant bed creation/maintenance, mulching, planting flowers, shrubs and occasional trees, and pruning.
- Other tasks beyond landscaping may include assisting full-time trades to remove construction debris from on-going projects within halls and apartments, moving furniture and equipment, delivery/retrieval of moving bins, mail runs, and other requested activity that will provide service to our primary stakeholders.
