Letter to a Wound -The World We Live in Today
A talk by Vijay Prashad

September 10, 2014 at the Cape Cod Lounge, Student Union Building, UMass Amherst

News reads like chaos. Failed revolutions and wars in the Middle East, growing inequality and the rise of xenophobia in Europe and the United States, military coups from Thailand to Egypt, tensions across the South China Sea, forgotten populations from the favelas of Rio to the water-less neighborhoods of Detroit. The clattering hoofs of the four horsemen can be heard everywhere. But there is reason in this madness.

Vijay Prashad is Professor of International Studies at Trinity College. His most recent book is The Poorer Nations: A Possible History of the Global South (Verso, 2013, now in paperback). He is a columnist for Frontline and a regular contributor to The Hindu, both based in India. The Prashad Report can be seen on a regular basis on The Real News Network.

This was the first presentation of AFSC’s “Social Justice Academy”, which is a class being taken by UMass and other 5-College students to introduce them to social justice history and practice. This presentation – like all of the others in the class – is free and open to all.
