STPEC Associate Director to Work with Students to Create an Open Education Textbook

Associate Director Graciela Monteagudo was awarded an Open Education Initiative grant to create a book based on lectures, exercises, videos, audios, and reading materials collected throughout four years of teaching STPEC 189 (formerly SPTEC 190A).  The course is based on the idea that education should be free, so no textbook is  required, as expensive course materials have a negative impact on the capacity of low income students to take the courses they need and are interested in. STPEC students that have collaborated in the design and implementation of this Team Based Learning Course will now also be collaborating as co-authors of the book. Working title: "Social Change in the Western World: Class, Race, Gender, and Radical Transformation." The book will be available online, downloadable as a PDF, to anybody anywhere in the world that can access the internet, through Wordpress.

Congratulations Professor Monteagudo!
