All Voices Matter: Real Talk about Diversity in Public Radio
In the fall of 2014, Professor, activist, and hip-hop artist Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika pulled in International audiences with his livestream coverage of protests in Ferguson, New York and Philadelphia. Kumanyika's January 2015 article on Vocal Color in Public Radio<http://transom.org/2015/chenjerai-kumanyika/> produced for Transom.org<http://Transom.org> spawned a nationwide discussion of diversity and voices in public media. It was featured on National Public Radio, the Washington Post and Buzzfeed, and it trended nationally on Twitter. Using these experiences and others, Dr. Kumanyika will explore provocative issues surrounding diversity, professionalism, and the essential role of public in today's social justice battles.
