Dr Petit to Present Grapevine Disease Resistance Research at International Symposium

Agricultural vinyards rely on Stockbridge research into the diseases that affect grapevines.  That research is international in scope.

Hailing from France, Plant Pathology Professor Dr Elsa Petit works to better understand variations in disease resistance in American hybrid grapes.  Her project is titled "The American Natural Wine Terrior: the role of soil microbiomes on plant health and climate change."

Stockbridge students are able to participate in ongoing faculty research projects, like Dr Petit's, which give them hands-on experience following scientific method in the research process.

Petit was just awarded approximately $20,000 funding from the UMass Amherst College of Natural Sciences Professional Development Fund to assist her in presenting her research to a larger audience. 

Specifically, Petit will travel to Germany this coming July, where she has been invited to share her findings at the XIII International Symposium on Grapevine Breeding and Genetics (ISBGB).  More information on the symposium can be found at https://gbg2022.julius-kuehn.de/
