Getting a UMass UCard is a requirement for all students. Start at the web page for the UMass Amherst UCard Office, located in Whitmore, Room 168.

Your UCard has many uses on and around campus. Your UCard is:

  • Your library card for the 5-College Library System (library barcode is located on the front)
  • Your PVTA bus pass; see Transportation Services for complete information on bus routes and schedules; (routes to the Five Colleges, including Amherst, Hampshire, Smith and Mt Holyoke Colleges are free with your pass).
  • Your pass to access the Recreation Center (membership fees apply).
  • Your access to certain locked rooms and buildings, such as labs, and greenhouses. Email GPD Assistant Sara Kelley, in Paige 201, to request activation of your UCard for the entrance to Paige. To gain access rights to the CNS Research and Education Greenhouse, email Greenhouse Superintendent Chris Joyner with a request to activate your UCard for this purpose.
  • You have the option to set up a debit UCard account that can be used to make purchases on campus (copy machines, food, etc.) Contact the UCard Office to set this up.
  • Your access to student discounts at the Bromery Fine Arts Center on campus, and some local businesses near campus.
