Nursing is among the most time-honored and esteemed of professions. Nurses are dedicated to improving the overall health and wellbeing of the people they serve, whether in schools, hospitals, medical practices, nursing homes, or in the community. Nursing represents the largest healthcare occupation in the United States, with demand expected to grow given the size of our aging population.


For over 60 years, The College of Nursing at UMass Amherst has prepared candidates for the nursing profession at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our programs are among the top-ranked in the nation. 

An Accelerated Option

The Accelerated BS in Nursing track is offered by the College of Nursing exclusively at the Springfield Center, where you can earn your undergraduate nursing degree in just 17 months. Nursing is a career that offers job security and career opportunity anywhere. To qualify, you must have an undergraduate degree in another discipline and have completed the required prerequisites. The program is taught by the distinguished, caring faculty of the UMass Amherst College of Nursing whose research is respected throughout the healthcare profession.

The Accelerated BS in Nursing integrates the core knowledge, core competencies, and role development necessary for successful clinical placements in a wide variety of settings in Springfield, across Massachusetts, and throughout New England. Upon completion, you will be prepared to sit for the NCLEX Nursing licensure exam in order to assess and meet the ever-changing health needs of individuals, families, and communities.

You will: 

  • Participate in team learning with your peers 
  • Develop technology proficiency in the College of Nursing’s state-of-the-art simulation lab and telehealth facilities at the Springfield Center 
  • Gain practical clinical experience in healthcare and community agency settings, guided by faculty advisors 
  • Have access to university and Springfield Center resources 

Get a degree in just 17 months:

Once you complete 58 residence credits and maintain academic proficiency, you’ll be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing.
