Jesse Lederman is the Pre-Admissions Advisor and Recruitment Coordinator based in the UWW Springfield UMass Center Office.
A lifelong Springfield resident, Jesse was raised by a single mom and two older sisters in the city’s Mason Square. In his teenage years, Jesse found a second family in Springfield’s activists and community leaders, who inspired in him a lifelong commitment to community, public service, and helping others, which ultimately led him to this role at the University Without Walls.
Jesse feels especially connected to the students at UWW as a result of his own non-traditional educational journey, which included a realization in his first year of college that his presumed dream school was not the right fit for him, a break from school to do what he really loved, and eventually re-enrolling at UMass Amherst as a commuter student, driving each day from Springfield to attend classes. He worked while in school, and finished his bachelor’s degree using a combination of classroom credits, CLEP Exams, and internships.
In short, he knows what it’s like to believe that your plan and path are one thing and then realize that they are something entirely different.
Before joining UWW Jesse worked as a professional political organizer, and ran Public Health and Environmental Initiatives for a local non-profit.
In addition to working with UWW, Jesse serves as an At-Large member of the Springfield City Council, and is active in various political, non-profit, and community groups throughout Massachusetts.
- B.A., Political Science, University of Massachusetts, Amherst
When he isn’t working or volunteering, Jesse enjoys spending time with his wife Emila, working on their fixer-upper home in Springfield, and playing with their basset hound Theodore.
