SPP Hosts Conversation with Jennifer Taub

The UMass Amherst School of Public Policy will host a conversation with legal scholar Jennifer Taub about her new book, Big Dirty Money: The Shocking Injustice and Unseen Cost of White Collar Crime, on Monday, March 22, at 12:15 p.m.

Big Dirty Money looks at ways that well-heeled perpetrators get away with white-collar crimes — tax fraud, embezzlement, financial misdeeds — that inflict deep damage to average Americans. The book has won rave reviews from sources including the Washington Post, which described it as “a crisp, engaging account of the many ways that corruption is thriving in the private sector and governments at every level,” adding: “Taub writes the law like the professor she is (though she is a much better writer than most lawyers).”

In addition to white-collar crime, Taub’s research focuses on corporate governance and banking and financial market regulation, topics she regularly writes about and discusses in interviews with news media. A professor at Western New England University’s School of Law, Taub is also the author of  Other People’s Houses: How Decades of Bailouts, Captive Regulators, and Toxic Bankers Made Home Mortgages a Thrilling Business and coauthor of Corporate and White Collar Crime: Cases and Materials, 6th edition.

The event, to be held via Zoom, is part of SPP’s 2020-21 Speaker Series. It is open to the UMass Amherst community.

Registration is required.
