The Center for Public Policy and Administration has been named among the most innovative public service programs in the United States. The ranking, from the independent group Best Value Schools, specifically highlights CPPA’s rigorous internship program and the intentional integration of social equity into teaching, research and service.

“Being recognized nationally in this way is a testament to all the great work that CPPA’s faculty, students and staff do every day,” says CPPA Director M.V. Lee Badgett. “We’ve all known for a long time that CPPA’s program is innovative and offers students truly unique learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. It’s an honor for our program to receive this kind of spotlight.”

Best Value Schools is an independent organization that researches multiple aspects of higher education institutions and programs, with the goal of helping prospective students get the most out of their educational dollar and experiences. Seven variables went into the calculation of the public service programs they ranked, including the number of dual degree offerings, the strength of the internship requirements and the number of innovative features in the department.

In 2011 the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration honored CPPA with the first-ever Social Equity Award, which was created to honor a public affairs, public administration and/or public policy program with a comprehensive approach to integrating social equity into its academic and practical work.
