Researchers provide update on gambling studies

Researchers from the Social and Economic Impacts of Gambling in Massachusetts study and the Massachusetts Gambling Impact Cohort study updated their research progress to date during their annual meeting at the Campus Center. Learn more

Postdoctoral researcher Sant receives NIH fellowship award

Environmental Health Sciences postdoctoral researcher Karilyn Sant has received a 3-year, $183,234 Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Individual National Research Service Award to examine risks of environmental exposures during embryonic development. Learn more

Becofsky, Fitzgerald awarded ACSM grants

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recently presented Kinesiology faculty member Katie Becofsky with the Paffenbarger-Blair Fund for Epidemiological Research on Physical Activity Award and doctoral candidate Liam Fitzgerald with a Doctoral Student Research Grant. Learn more

Baldwin awarded Fulbright for research in Colombia

A Fulbright U.S. Student grant will allow recent Biostatistics graduate Justin Baldwin MS ’17 to travel to Cali, Colombia and research ecology related to birds and bats. The grant will cover Baldwin’s transportation costs to South America, and room and board while he works there. Learn more

Cameron selected for CLPP internship program

Public Health Sciences major Nora Ani Cameron has been selected to participate in the Summer 2017 Civil Liberties & Public Policy internship program at Hampshire College. She joins a cohort of 25 students chosen from a pool of over 700 applicants from across the country. Learn more

Kick It on Kilimanjaro

Alumna Eliza Shirazi ’13 leads Kilimanjaro climb fundraiser

Public Health Sciences alumna Eliza Shirazi ’13 leads a team planning to climb Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro to benefit Flying Kites, a Boston-based nonprofit that runs a boarding school for underprivileged children in Kenya. Learn more

Pollitt receives Public Service Endowment Grant

Environmental Health Sciences' Krystal Pollitt and Ezra Markowitz, environmental conservation, have been selected to receive a $14,850 UMass Amherst Public Service Endowment Grant to work with community partners in Springfield on an asthma prevention project. Learn more
