The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) recently profiled Associate Professor Laura Vandenberg, highlighting her work in research and academia.
Appearing in the Division of Extramural Research and Training’s (DERT) “Stories of Success” series, the feature examines Vandenberg’s extensive research on endocrine disrupting chemicals as well as how she is inspiring UMass Amherst students to follow in her footsteps.
Vandenberg’s work focuses on vulnerable periods of development in women, specifically during pregnancy. “We’ve known for decades that developing fetuses are vulnerable to EDCs; but we have only known for the last five or so years, that the mother is also especially susceptible to these chemicals – and we don’t know how or why,” she says.
