The School of Public Health and Health Sciences announced that sixteen of its faculty have been granted tenure and/or promoted for fall 2021.

“I want to commend our amazing faculty members for these well-deserved tenure awards and promotions. Their unique contribution in their respective fields enhances our stature and helps to attract talented students to UMass. They all excel as teachers, scholars, and researchers and we are very fortunate to have them here in SPHHS,” says Dean Anna Maria Siega-Riz. “Please join us in congratulating them.”

  • Sofiya Alhassan – promoted to Professor of Kinesiology
  • Andrea Ayvazian – promoted to Senior Lecturer of Health Promotion and Policy
  • Raji Balasubramanian – promoted to Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology
  • Carol Bigelow – promoted to Senior Lecturer and Research Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology
  • Kathryn Derose – granted full tenure as Professor of Health Promotion and Policy
  • Eliza Frechette – promoted to Senior Lecturer II of Kinesiology
  • Kimberley Geissler – granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor of Health Promotion and Policy
  • Tomma Henckel – promoted to Senior Lecturer II of Communication Disorders
  • Young-Cheul Kim – promoted to Professor of Nutrition
  • Judi Labranche – promoted to Senior Lecturer II of Kinesiology
  • Mark Miller – granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor of Kinesiology
